Sweet Notes from Mary
July is over and where did the summer go? I know it still feels like the dog days of summer, but School starts this month…at least for the colleges where I teach. HFCC starts the 26th of August and OCC right after. I can hardly believe how fast time is going. Like Pat says “If I’m not careful I will be 90 before I know it”. I think she is right!

Our summer has been really busy. We had an open house at the ‘Redneck Inn’ on July 3rd, 4th and 5th. What a great time. We had lots of food and great music played by Brand New History, my son-in-law’s band. Over 70 friends helped us celebrate our new home. Everyone had so much fun watching the great fireworks over Lake Chemung.

LeAnne and Chris are on their honeymoon in Maine the first week of August. You will have to ask her about the whale watching, I know it will be awesome. She is really looking forward to her trip. We all wish her well.

Megan is in Paris with her sister. What a wonderful experience for a cake decorator. Paris has the reputation for fabulous pastries and desserts. We will have to see what Megan thinks!

Grandma is doing well at the new home. She even has a suntan! Her first ever in 92 years. And my flowers are awesome (Grandma is taking care of them) I have tomatoes and huge pots or real flowers. I usually plant silk flowers so this is a new experience for me. Have a sweet day.

Mary Denning’s Cake Shoppe has partnered up with the new owners of the Vintage Market located on Ann Arbor Trail and Middlebelt in Westland. Patrons will be able to order Mary Denning wedding and birthday cakes through the Vintage Market. We are hoping that this will add some convenience to the cake ordering process.

HOME COOKED & READY
Our Copper-Country Style Pasties and Chicken Pot pies are always ready for you to take home for an easy home cooked meal. Did you know that pasties came over from England originally? (Grandma Margaret always said the Finns made them better). Brought over to the Upper Peninsula, the miners found that this was a great hot lunch. The wives would cut up potatoes, carrots, onions and beef, wrap them in a pastry crust and bake the pasties in the morning. By wrapping them in newspaper, pasties would make a warm lunch in the cold dark mines. Our pasties are my mother’s recipe and are made from scratch here in the bakery. Try our chicken pot pies or pasties. Call us an at least an hour before and he will bake them for you! You can pick them up hot and ready for lunch or dinner! Baker Charlie cooks up his Copper Country Style Pasties.  These are my mother' recipe. Made with ground sirloin, potatoes, rutabaga, onions and carrots. We can also ship them.
